The Browning veröffentlichen Studioalbum Geist

Für den 26. Oktober 2018 kündigen The Browning ihr neues und mittlerweile viertes Studioalbum Geist an, das via Spinefarm Records erscheinen wird. Mit Carnage gibt es bereits die erste Single der amerikanischen Band zu hören. Das Video ist weiter unten zu sehen.

Das Quartett um Jonny McBee machte 2011 mit ihrem Debütalbum Burn This World von sich reden und vermengen diverse Stile wie Industrial, Elektronika, Rock/Metal und Videospiele-Sounds. Ich würde allerdings davon absehen, diese Band als Genre-Vorreiter zu sehen. Als Gegenbeispiele nennen ich mal, mal mehr, mal weniger, extrem ausgeprägt HORSE The Band, The Locust, Enter Shikari. Dennoch ist das natürlich eine interessante Mischung.

Im Musikvideo zu Carnage nimmt die Band die Story des Superhelden One Punch Man aus der gleichnamigen, populären Anime-Serie auf.

“My end goal for The Browning is to be industrial-electronic-rock-metal,” erklärt Jonny McBee. “For this new album, I knew there needed to be a massive change not just musically for listeners, but for myself. That change had to come from the vocals. I’ve been working on finding the right voice for three years that’s powerful and melodic, but still extremely heavy and emotional. It was a long process, and I documented most of it live on my Twitch channel.”

“Structurally, the base of half the album was written on stream,” erzählt McBee. “Since I was writing in front of a live audience, I was giving them what I thought The Browning fans would want to hear–breakdowns, fast synths, and techno. However, I wanted to incorporate different elements. I wrote the rest in private, so I could really focus.”
